I know that the UK Scenic model isn't even available yet, but the Megane E-Tech seems to have a similar camera setup, so I wonder if my query here about whether the 360-degree cameras have any sort of recording function is answerable before the Scenic actually arrives? On a test-drive with the top-of-the-range UK Scenic Iconic model last week, we were very impressed with the camera tech - both the built-in rear mirror camera that can swap out the standard reflective mirror that offers a limited view through the slim rear window, with a full unobstructed rear-view in the mirror-screen, and also the camera-assisted parking option that puts an AI-generated birds-eye view of the car-roof on the main screen, showing exactly where you're moving in relation to car-park white lines and neighbouring vehicles. It was like having a drone hovering above the car showing exactly where you are - very impressive! However, our Renault guide wasn't able to explain whether the cameras have any sort of recording function to allow you to replay driving views around you, or whether you'd still require a separate dash-cam to be fitted to get that function. I wonder if anyone out there knows whether this might be possible on the Google Maps assisted setup on these new Renault EVs? Any thoughts gratefully received!

I must admit I thought I was going hate the built in mirror camera but wow I loved it even more so with the limited view out of the back Windows. Now the long wait for the car hopefully September 🤞

I was impressed with the mirror camera on our test-drive too. My only hesitation with it now we’re driving the Scenic is that you have to focus on the front of the mirror screen to see it clearly, whereas your eyes focus on the reflection in the mirror when you flick it to the reflective mirror, as if you were looking beyond the mirror itself. I hadn’t realised how different those 2 different points of focus would be, but I’m getting used to it and use the camera mirror most of the time now because it’s so much clearer.

Also, after checking my dash cam question above with the techie at my local Renault dealer, it looks like there’s no way of recording the 360 degree camera footage yet, so I’ve ordered the Renault-recommended front & rear dash cams as the simpler way to get that extra visual protection. Perhaps someone will eventually work out how to record footage from the built-in cameras but until then a dash cam seems the best option.

The cameras come on automatically when reversing, and you can also select them at other times. However, the cameras only operate at slow speed, I guess it's a parking assist and not meant for recording on the open road. It may take significant computing power to build the overhead picture from several independent cameras and may not be possible at high speed.
