But it mixes well sorted driving dynamics, a spacious, practical cabin, impressive real-world range and solid tech with a price that is fully competitive in the EV landscape. And this, in turn, makes it a far more compelling family-car proposition than the Megane ever could be. The devil will be in the detail of the monthlies, admittedly, but there’s considerable potential here.

It doesn’t break any new ground, especially not with its conventional seating and practicality. Even so, if you ignore Renault’s noises about “family solutions”, it’s just as useful as rivals, and its tech, interior finish and roominess are really great.
It deserves to be a popular choice.

Best of all for car enthusiasts, it has a little old-school Renault va-va-voom in its steering and dynamics. That won’t be to everyone’s tastes, if you value comfort over corner carving. Otherwise it’s a zero emissions family SUV that offers a little something to the driver, plenty more to his or her understanding family – and thinks about the planet too.
